Advocating for Better Hearing and Communication in DC
Audiology Extern, Liz Ureno, M.A., from Pacific University Doctor of Audiology program, traveled as the National Vice President of the Student Academy of Doctor’s Audiology (SADA) to Washington D.C. She met with the offices of Pacific Northwest legislators to discuss ways to improve access to audiology health care services.
Liz went to DC for the annual Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA) meeting. One of the days was Capitol Hill Lobby Day, where they met with state reps to advocate for the MAAIA bill- Medicare Audiology Access Improvement Act (H.R. 6445 / S. 2377).
Liz also attended the conference as the National Vice President of the Student Academy of Doctors of Audiology (SADA). On her experience in DC, Liz said:
“As I near the end of my term in this role, and my final year of doctoral studies at Pacific University, it was especially meaningful to bring the student voice to Capitol Hill. This experience highlighted the importance of advocacy not only for our patients but also for the next generation of audiologists who will carry this work forward. It was also fun to attend the conference and listen and learn from audiologists across the country!”
