In response to the devastating January fires in Los Angeles, the ESHC team came together to organize a special relief initiative to support the communities affected. Over the course of several weeks, our team collaborated across the Speech and Audiology departments to develop a plan to support our communities.
ESHC has partnered with the Child Success Center, a local speech and occupational therapy clinic that was deeply impacted, losing nearly 25% of its business to the fires. Through this partnership, we assembled 3 care baskets (each from a different department of our clinic) to be distributed to the children in affected neighborhoods.
The care baskets were designed to support children in feeling grounded amid this major disruption. Our goal is to help create calm and safe spaces where students can reset when they are overwhelmed. Each basket includes sensory and fidget toys, other comfort related items, and a heartfelt note of encouragement and support written by young speech therapy patients.
During this difficult time, ESHC hopes to do our part from across the way to support those in need. While we may be miles apart, our hearts are with the families and children facing the aftermath of these fires. We believe that even small gestures can create a ripple of hope, and we remain committed to standing in solidarity with our extended community.
