Kellie’s Story
Kellie, one of our highly skilled speech-language pathologists, works with children and adults who may have previously found therapy sessions invasive, overwhelming, or unengaging. To create a more positive experience, Kellie introduces a client-focused approach and ensures that each patient feels empowered to make decisions about their care. Kellie frequently tells her young patients, “In here, we only do what you want to do”.
Kellie finds great fulfillment when kids express how much they love their sessions—some even saying they don’t want to “graduate” because they have so much fun. She helps them understand that the goal is not for them to stay in speech therapy forever, but to build the skills they need to thrive. By leaning into her patients’ unique interests, Kellie sees rapid growth in communication, as their confidence and comfort grows. One particularly memorable moment was when a patient was able to say “I love you” to their father for the
first time. Kellie additionally enjoys answering parents’ questions about their child’s development and guiding them through their unique journey. These transformative moments highlight the profound social and emotional connections that speech therapy can help facilitate.
