Speech-language pathologists (SLPs), commonly referred to as\nspeech therapists, can evaluate a patient\u2019s speech, language, cognitive,\ncommunication and swallowing skills in order to diagnose a speech disorder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SLP will gather a history of the child\u2019s health, family,\ndevelopment and school performance before the evaluation. Depending on the age\nand attention span of the child, the evaluation may be completed in just one\nsession, or it could span over several sessions. The length of the session\ndepends on the SLP\u2019s plan and the child\u2019s cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
