You will partner with a speech-language pathologist to learn strategies to facilitate expressive and receptive language, social engagement, play skills and imitation skills. Strategies will be used within play, daily routines and activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why Project ImPACT?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Research supports that children learn communication skills through their daily interactions, play and routines in the community. By training you, the parent, to use language facilitating strategies outside of the therapy appointment, we maximize the therapy the child receives, thereby ensuring that skills gained carry over to the natural environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What to expect:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sessions will be scheduled one to two times weekly and will be 30 minutes in length. The program lasts approximately three to four months, depending on your child\u2019s needs and progress rate. Sessions will generally begin with a check-in and problem solving any difficulties that occurred over the past week. We will then review a previously learned strategy or learn a new strategy. The strategy will then be demonstrated, and you will practice it with your child. Finally, a practice plan will be discussed at the end of the session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The structure of the sessions may change slightly to meet the individualized needs of the family. During the first few sessions, your clinician will take time to build rapport and set-up the environment for success with the program.
