{"id":1292,"date":"2010-09-01T08:02:17","date_gmt":"2010-09-01T16:02:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.everhear.com\/?p=1292"},"modified":"2010-09-01T08:02:17","modified_gmt":"2010-09-01T16:02:17","slug":"new-advocate-on-the-block","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everhear.com\/new-advocate-on-the-block\/","title":{"rendered":"New Advocate On The Block"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tYou may remember Joey McIntyre as being a teen singing sensation with the group New Kids on the Block, but today McIntyre is all grown up, and being honored by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) this November for his support and advocacy of the speech and hearing professions.<\/p>\n<p>McIntyre&#8217;s son,\u00a0Rhys has a moderate to severe hearing loss, detected during his newborn hearing screening. \u201cWe found out pretty fast,\u201d McIntyre says of Rhys\u2019 hearing loss. \u201cIt&#8217;s so very important to have early intervention\u2026 we were lucky to find out right away. The fact that my son has hearing loss, he\u2019s going to learn a different way, and he\u2019s going to maybe live a little bit differently.
