{"id":1753,"date":"2011-03-07T09:36:48","date_gmt":"2011-03-07T17:36:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.everhear.com\/?p=1753"},"modified":"2022-09-29T13:32:00","modified_gmt":"2022-09-29T20:32:00","slug":"hearing-loss-and-loss-in-income","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everhear.com\/hearing-loss-and-loss-in-income\/","title":{"rendered":"Hearing Loss and Loss in Income?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tAccording to a national\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/journals.lww.com\/thehearingjournal\/Fulltext\/2010\/10000\/MarkeTrak_VIII__The_efficacy_of_hearing_aids_in.4.aspx#P53\">study by the Better Hearing Institute (BHI)<\/a>, those with untreated hearing loss lose as much as $30,000 in annual income.\u00a0The BHI study included over 40,000 households and showed that the use of hearing aids can reduce the risk of income loss by 90% to 100% for those with milder hearing loss, and from 65% to 77% for those with severe to moderate hearing loss.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1754\" title=\"hearinglossgraph\" src=\"http:\/\/everhear.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/Original.00025572-201010000-00004.FF3_-e1299519367739.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"410\" height=\"228\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;More than 34 million Americans suffer from hearing loss,&#8221; stated BHI executive director Sergei Kochkin, PhD. &#8220;Roughly 60% of them are in the workforce. Our study showed that when hearing loss is left unaddressed, it can pose significant barriers to productivity, performance, career success, and also to lifelong earnings.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The loss in income for people with untreated hearing loss due to underemployment is estimated at $176 billion, according to the BHI study. The study also showed that there is a strong relationship between the degree of hearing loss and unemployment for those who do not use hearing aids.
