{"id":2538,"date":"2008-10-13T11:45:11","date_gmt":"2008-10-13T11:45:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.everhear.com\/blog\/?p=83"},"modified":"2019-09-18T14:05:16","modified_gmt":"2019-09-18T21:05:16","slug":"its-a-noisy-planet-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everhear.com\/its-a-noisy-planet-campaign\/","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s A Noisy Planet Campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last Monday the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) launched a new campaign aimed at helping parents of 8 to 12 year olds teach their children how to avoid hearing loss from overexposure to loud noise.<\/p>\n<p>The new campaign is called It&#8217;s a Noisy Planet &#8211; Protect Their Hearing. \u00a0The campaign features a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.noisyplanet.nidcd.nih.gov\/\">website<\/a> that offers advice to parents on the causes and prevention of noise-induced hearing loss, how to recognize when a child\u2019s hearing is at risk, and ways to reduce noise exposure. The site contains games, posters, and interactive information about noise and hearing loss tailored specifically for tweens.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Noisy Planet campaign advocates three ways to prevent Noise Induced Hearing Loss:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Block the noise by wearing earplugs or protective earmuffs.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid the noise by walking away or limiting time spent in noisy environments.<\/li>\n<li>Turn down the sound!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>This campaign is great, and is exactly the message that needs to go out there to teens (check out our <a href=\"http:\/\/everhear.wpengine.com\/community\/community-bhsm-2008-concert.html\">Turn It Down Concert<\/a> that we hold annually during Better Hearing and Speech Month to spread the same message).
