Previous testing required examining each gene individually. The process could take up to a year, and cost around $1,000 per gene &#8211; totalling up to $75,000 when testing all genes known to cause deafness.<\/p>\n<p>The new test procedure is conducted in a single run taking one to three months and costing around $2,000.
