The\u00a0awareness\u00a0week was established in 1988, with a proclamation by President Reagan in response to the advocacy of the members of the\u00a0<a title=\"National Stuttering Association\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_Stuttering_Association\">National Stuttering Association<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>During the week get to know the facts, join your local NSA chapter support group or sign-up to learn more at our &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/everhear.wpengine.com\/contact-us\/\">Smooth Sailing&#8221; event May 22nd<\/a>.
