Our doctors have a few key elements to help create a successful gathering for your\u00a0hearing-impaired relatives &#8211; all it takes is a little advanced planning! \u00a0Signs of hearing loss can\u00a0include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keeping the volume up louder than normal on the television and\/or radio.<\/li>\n<li>Frequently asking people to repeat themselves.<\/li>\n<li>Having trouble understanding women and children when they speak.<\/li>\n<li>Having difficulty hearing in noisy environments, such as restaurants and shopping malls.<\/li>\n<li>Contributing inappropriately to the conversation or answering questions incorrectly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once you recognize a family member is having difficulty, create an environment that allows for inclusion. For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure your hearing-impaired family member is paying attention to you before you begin to speak.<\/li>\n<li>Speak face-to-face at a regular tone and even pace.<\/li>\n<li>Keep your hands away from your face and don&#8217;t talk while you&#8217;re eating or chewing gum. Some\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthyhearing.com\/content\/articles\/Hearing-loss\/Treatments\/47497-Coping-with-hearing-loss\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hearing-impaired individuals<\/a> rely on lip reading to follow the conversation.<\/li>\n<li>If you are asked to repeat yourself several times, try to rephrase your comments.
