Each month we will be highlighting the educational achievements of our staff! To start the education section off we’ll be highlighting the summer education and classes achieved by our clinicians and doctors. In this section you’ll find out what the newest trends are and what your doctors and clinicians are educationally searching out.

Doctor Thomas Norwood completed 20 hours of continuing education this past June. The additional 20 hours were needed to meet the 60 hours required over a three year period to be certified by the American Board of Audiology (ABA). ABA is a voluntary certification, and one in which Dr. Norwood is proud to have maintained. His hours also place him well about the required 30 hours in three years for the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.

Speech Program Director Maryam Sadrzadeh attended an adult learning and supervision workshop for audiology and speech-language pathology fields by the University of Washington. The workshop brought together leaders from the community to teach them new techniques for educating adults and giving them feedback.

In July, Doctor Cheryl Lokanis took an Audiology Online course on “Music-Induced Hearing Loss: Risk and Prevention for Musicians and Music Consumers.” The course identified the risks of music exposure for musicians and concert attendees, and provided research-based recommendations for custom hearing protection.

Stay tuned for monthly updates on what the audiology and speech-language pathology departments are working on.
