The event brought attention to the dangers of Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) and also helped raise funds for long-time patient and collegiate athlete <a href=\"http:\/\/English.2009deaflympics.org\/files\/625-1027-32275.php\">Thomas Guidon&#8217;s<\/a> trek to the 2009 Deaflympics.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Olympic Games, Deaflympics, Paralympics, Special Olympics, and Youth Olympic Games are all international events recognized by the International Olympics Committee (IOC).\u00a0The Deaflympics requires its participating athletes to have a hearing loss in their better ear of more than 55 decibels.\u00a03959 athletes from 81 countries have gathered in Taipei, Taiwan for the 21st Summer Deaflympics (September 5th to 15th).<\/p>\n<p>We were just notified that Thomas was presented with <a href=\"http:\/\/athletics.2009deaflympics.org\/files\/600-1028-266,c1-32275.php\">5th place in the Men&#8217;s Pole Vault Finals<\/a>.
