Over the past month here are some of the educational achievements completed by the program members.<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Speech Program Director <strong>Maryam Sadrzadeh<\/strong> attended a two day conference on the <strong><em>Evaluation and Management of Voice Disorders. The conference took place <\/em><\/strong>in Portland, OR, November 1st and 2nd and brought experts from around the country to the Pacific Northwest to discuss best practices and new research. Maryam also had the opportunity to present on <strong><em>Lessac-Madsen Resonant Voice Training<\/em><\/strong> (LMRVT) to the Advanced Voice Class at the University of Washington on October 30th.<\/li>\n<li>Speech Language Pathologist <strong>Kate Pilant<\/strong> attended the <strong>PROMPT<\/strong> training November 12-14. PROMPT is a program that utilizes a kinesthetic approach within therapy, better supporting the jaw movement and alignment required for speech. PROMPT therapy is often used to treat apraxia of speech, but has been found useful with a variety of articulation disorders. Kate has been hard at work on her continuing education hours through online courses. Some of the courses include: &#8220;<em><strong>Vocabulary Intervention: Evidence-Based Practices<\/strong><\/em>,&#8221; where child acquisition of therapy and efficient and effective intervention for children with low vocabularies was discussed, &#8220;<em><strong>Family Focused Treatment for Children Who Stutter<\/strong><\/em>,&#8221; combining indirect and direct therapy for young children as well as learning support techniques for families, &#8220;<strong><em>Stages and Components of Presymbolic and Symbolic Play<\/em><\/strong>,&#8221; analyzing the link between play development in relation to all other areas of development, along with many other courses in childhood development, language delay, assessment and intervention.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The speech team continues to work on professional development and continued education.
