A new study conducted at Johns Hopkins University showed two out of three U.S. adults age 70 or older have significant hearing loss and only 20% of that population uses hearing aids. These figures are alarming, especially with the new information release last month on the connection between untreated hearing loss and dementia.
The study examined 717 participants age 70 and over. Another interesting fact found in this study was race playing a factor in your chances of having a hearing loss. Researchers found African-American participants had only about a third of the chance of having hearing loss compared with white participants of comparable age.
