In honor of National Protect Your Hearing Month, we want to feature a group of people that often get forgotten when it comes to hearing protection – musicians. Did you know that over 30% of pop/rock musicians suffer from Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL)? NIHL damage is caused by an overexposure to sounds in a sudden spurt or through long/repeated exposure to sounds over 85 decibels (dB).
The average concert is measured around 110-130dB – far exceeding the danger zone! And not only are musicians at risk, concertgoers are also impacted by these loud sounds. With repeated exposure, attendees of these concerts increase the risk of NIHL.
The exciting news is that use of hearing protection plays a large part in musicians and concertgoers protecting their hearing, as NIHL is 100% preventable!
Our doctors of audiology are experts in the needs of musicians and musician fans – helping find protection that will maintain your hearing health, while still allowing in the sounds of music and the crowd! From garage band performances to sold out stadium tours, allow our doctors to help keep your ears safe from the high decibel dangers.
A recent addition to ESHC’s Kirkland office, allowing for musicians and fans to experience hearing protection in a real life simulated experience, is the first interactive listen lab. The customized room allows you to demo and compare the different in-ear options in a state-of-the-art listening lab. Hear for yourself! Schedule your listening lab experience today!
