As we enter into the Holiday season our schedules fill up with parties, family events and social activities. There is nothing more difficult than having difficulty communicating during these events. We want to help you make the most of your experience with helpful holiday hearing tips! Each week we’ll feature a new tip from our doctors to make sure you get the most out of your holiday celebrations!
Tip #1: Turn Up The Lights
Although you may be thinking, “what does light have to do with my hearing,” it actually can make a big difference in your ability to understand what is going on in the conversation! By sitting in a well lit area you’ll be able to better receive visual cues from your conversation partner. These visual cues are called speech reading and allow for you to receive visual input on the persons speech through their facial expressions, mouth movement and body language. Research has shown that 30-40% of speech is recognized through visual cues. These tips can help for those who use amplification, and for those with normal hearing when in a crowded/noisy room.
