Did you know that 68 million people stutter? Today we celebrate the millions of people who stutter, and help raise awareness of the challenges of stuttering during International Stuttering Awareness Day (ISAD).
ISAD occurs every October and was created to raise awareness of the issues surrounding stuttering. It is a joint endeavor by persons who stutter, their family and friends, along with professionals (educators, researchers and clinicians). As stated on the National Stuttering Association’s website, “The awareness day provides framework for building a more humane, just and compassionate world for all people who stutter.”
Wondering how you can learn more about stuttering? Minnesota State University, Mankato has set up a website to help educate and inform people on the issues around stuttering. The online conference allows you to read papers by consumers and professionals from around the world! You can also interact with presenters during “live” sessions. Papers remain available online and all past conferences are archived.
You can also join us for our monthly Stuttering Support Group meetings – all are welcome to join. Learn more on our community link.
