In a recent study conducted by the Better Hearing Institute it was found that only 2% of hearing instrument wearers are presented with an aural rehabilitation program, such as LACE, upon receiving their devices. At ESHC we are proud to represent the 2% population, offering LACE as a part of every comprehensive hearing instrument plan.
What many people don’t know is that we don’t hear with our ears, we hear with our brains. As our hearing worsens, our brain receives less auditory input and gets out of practice. Fortunately our brains have the abilities to re-learn sounds, this is where LACE comes into play. Studies have shown that a person with a typical hearing loss on average can experience approximately 40% improvement in speech understanding in noise after completing the program LACE. The program, often referred to as a “workout for your ears” helps rewire and strengthen the connections in your brain making your communicative abilities stronger.
It’s important when choosing your hearing care provider to research what is offered beyond the technology, the importance of auditory rehab through LACE, courses or workshops will make your new device purchase even better.
