University of Iowa researchers working with colleagues in Baylor College of Medicine have developed a test that can screen all of the genes that cause deafness. Previous testing required examining each gene individually. The process could take up to a year, and cost around $1,000 per gene – totalling up to $75,000 when testing all genes known to cause deafness.
The new test procedure is conducted in a single run taking one to three months and costing around $2,000. To learn more about the study and the new test procedure check out the article released in Science Daily.
