The Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Program (EHDI) was established to screen newborns for hearing loss within their first days of life. With this program intervention is able to start for these children sooner than ever before allowing them to reach the educational level of their peers. The EHDI program has shown that between 2-10% of children fail the screening within the hospital. Upon receiving this information it is important for families to schedule an appointment with an audiologist to undergo further testing.
Good Morning America recently aired a segment on newborn hearing screening programs and the importance of proper testing to determine what the cause of the loss (if any) is.
