Thank you to the SSG members who attended the March meeting last week. It was truly enlightening to discover how several members have sprung outside their comfort zones to improve their success and self-confidence with public speaking. Two members enrolled themselves in various speaking groups within the community, including local Toastmasters clubs. Not only have these individuals overcome their fears about speaking in front of an audience, but as I observed first hand, they have become very talented and entertaining speakers.
One member delivered an inspirational speech she had prepared for an upcoming competition. She spoke with such enthusiasm and confidence, that you would never know this woman had ever been afraid to speak, let alone stutter. I was enlightened by drive and determination that these members exuded as they described how they seek out opportunities to improve their speech and self-confidence.
As I drove home from our meeting, I asked myself whether I had pushed myself outside my comfort zone for self-improvement recently. Sure, I dream about things I would like to accomplish in the future, but how many times do I actually follow through with that first step toward that goal?
As springtime settles in, I hope that others feel as inspired as I do to begin something new with a goal of self-improvement.
