The first application we will discuss is “My PlayHome”. This app features a customizable family. This best part is that the house the family lives in is completely interactive. Your child can open the fridge and give the baby a snack or pretend to brush the father’s teeth! It is a great application for preschool and young school-age children. We often use this app to target pronouns and verbs. For instance, your child might describe what different characters are doing: “She is eating an apple.” They might also answer questions, such as “What is the mommy doing?”. It is a great way to help your child with describing objects during “I Spy” for each room. For instance, you could first model the game using an apple in the kitchen: “I spy something red and small. It’s on the counter. It’s crunchy and sweet.”
For children working on specific sounds, they can “search” for items in the house containing their sound or make a sentence using a word you give them. The app is very concrete to children, which is great for teaching new vocabulary. It also relates to their personal experience, as they have many of the same things at home. Most children really like the interactive nature of the application- your child can even go outside and pick carrots and apples!
