Toca Boca Hair Salon is another favorite app here at ESHC. This application lets your child choose a character, and then allows them to style, cut, wash, color, and decorate the character’s hair. As a speech-language pathologist, this app is great for having a child follow directions to “customize” the character. The child can also give the directions to the speech-language pathologist or parent. For example, temporal concepts “first/then” can be targeted by asking the child to “First, wash the girl’s hair with water then soap. Then, blow dry her hair.” Spatial concepts can also be targeted, such as “Put the red bow under the glasses.” As with the apps described previously, this app is also great for describing the characters as well as comparing the character before and after his/her haircut. This app has also been good for finding words containing the child’s sound.
