Have you ever wondered how professional signers are trained? Last night Clinic Director Ruth Norwood and myself attended the NW Voice Foundation’s meeting that uncovered the mysteries of a master voice session. Dr. Kari Ragan, a voice instructor and professor at the University of Washington’s School of Music, demonstrated the techniques and skills of habilitative voice sessions. She pointed out the importance of the artists using correct breathing strategies and signing voice range appropriate pieces. A few of the artists also spoke of their struggles with their vocal folds, and the help they received from SLP’s thorughout the area to create new vocal techniques.
This course was a part of a monthly meeting held by the voice foundation to further educate singers, teachers, SLP’s, MD’s, actors and fans of the arts.
